BATAVIA HOCKEY | CLUB PLAYER / PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT | 2008-2009 SEASON

Behavioral Expectations:

Every player in the Batavia Hockey Club Program is expected to follow the highest standards of sportsmanship, citizenship and courtesy at all times. This not only includes when they are on the ice or locker rooms for practice and games, but also in public areas of the rinks prior to and after their time on the ice or at any other public venue. Any BHC team member will be subject to disciplinary action if he or she commits any of the following violations:

• Falsification of any signature on BHC registration forms

• Theft or vandalism of any BHC, school or personal property

• Any act of unsportsmanlike conduct during the season, such as cheating, fighting, or abuse of officials, contestants, coaches or spectators, use of foul or offensive language, or insubordination of coaches

• Wearing of clothing or use of signs with derogatory or illicit statements about BHC or any of our combined high schools

• Use or possession of tobacco, alcohol, marijuana or any abuse of prescription or nonprescription drugs

• Any other violation of the BHC Drug & Alcohol policy.

BHC follows the current guidelines of USA Hockey with respect to zero tolerance, player and parent behavior. BHC families will conduct themselves in a manner which exemplifies good sportsmanship and fair play. Families will be supportive of all team players and coaches, both on and off the ice, and will refrain from negative or derogatory comments about players, coaches, and officials. BHC reserves the right to restrict a players ice time or terminate or restrict a player's participation if the behavior of a player is consistently detrimental to the best interest and goals of BHC. Similarly, parental behavior that jeopardizes a team's opportunity for a positive experience will not be tolerated.

Team Rules & Expectations:

Each player is expected to participate in all activities of his team. The coaches will establish team rules regarding attendance, behavior, etc. and the penalties for violations. These rules will include expectations regarding:

• Timeliness of attendance at practices, games and meetings

• Adherence to dress code

• Locker room responsibilities

• Sportsmanship and sportsmanlike behavior

• Team support and commitment.

Failure to follow team rules can, at a minimum, limit a players ice time. Repeat offenses will be brought to the BHC Board for determination of additional consequences.

Dress Code:

All players must comply with the BHC dress code. The off-ice dress code will consist of the BHC warm-up suit.  When a player violates this code of conduct, his coach has the authority to administer immediate disciplinary action. At his discretion, the coach may then discuss the issue or submit a written report to the Rules & Ethics Committee of the BHC Board of Directors. The Rules and Ethic Committee will review the events and may also impose further/additional disciplinary actions.  No players, even the most talented, will override this Code of Conduct.  It is important that players have an avenue to express their concern about decisions that have been made by their coach(es). It is the RESPONSIBILTY OF THE PLAYER to arrange a meeting with the coach to discuss such concerns. Players and parents have the right to submit to the board either written or oral concerns about decisions that may need further explanation. The board will make sure that all reasonable requests will be reviewed and referred to the Rules and Ethics Committee in the shortest time period possible.
